The sweetness is very pleasant and not too overwhelming because the fruit contains more glucose than fructose. In addition, unlike kiwi, with which pitahaya is often compared due to its similar seeds, the pulp does not contain acid. The pulp is fiberless and has numerous small, black seeds. The seeds are what make dragon fruit so appealing. They give the dry pulp that special something when eaten. Valuable ingredients A fresh pitaya consists of about 90% water. It is therefore quite low in calories due to its relatively low sugar content.
