Birch sugar (or xylitol) is a sugar substitute that is comparable in appearance, flavor and sweetening power to regular household sugar. It owes its name to its discovery in the fibers of birch bark. Raab Premium Birch Sugar is made from European hardwoods such as birch and is produced in Finland. Unlike household sugar, birch sugar has about 40% fewer calories. Birch sugar is found naturally in many fruits, berries and vegetable plants. Birch sugar is suitable for baking (except yeast dough), cooking and sweetening drinks.
