Matcha tea, also known as Japanese green tea or mocha, is now appreciated all over the world. These are powdered green tea leaves with different properties and a unique flavor.
The origin of matcha
Matcha originated in Imperial China during the Sui Dynasty. It used a highly prized and finely crafted leaf that was consumed during the traditional tea ceremony.
The leaves were steamed and pressed into special "bricks" for storage and trade. These are then dried and crushed into a very fine powder.
The tradition also became part of Chan Buddhist ritual, which included the use of these leaves in the tea ceremony in etiquette.
