Fyodor Dostoevsky (November 11, 1821 – February 9, 1881) was a Russian writer of novels, short stories, and essays. Dostoevsky's literary works explore human psychology in the difficult political, social and spiritual context of 19th century Russia. Although Dostoevsky began writing books in the mid-1840s, the most memorable are from his later years, including Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, and The Brothers Karamazov. He wrote eleven novels, three short stories, seventeen short stories, and three essays, and was recognized by many literary critics as one of the greatest and most prominent psychologists in world literature.
