Pineapple is a plant species. It comes from the bromeliad family. It is native to America but is now cultivated all over the world in tropical areas as a fruit plant. Some are grown in Sri Lanka and India. However, it is now also grown and produced in South America, mainly in Colombia. The fleshy stems of pineapple fruit can be eaten fresh or made into juice and fruit preserves. Dried pineapple rings are also particularly popular in this context.
